Arthritis
A problem which appears frequently among the adult population is one of the
common diseases which a man or a woman encounters in the later stages in their
life. Stiffness, painful movements, swelling of joints sometimes inflammatory fever
etc are the effects felt by a person having arthritis. We find problem in performing
jobs which require bending, lifting etc. Here are many types of arthritis however the
most common are rhematoid arthritis and osteo arthritis. In the latter form there is a
break down of cartilage which might have occurred due to injuries or lifetime bending.
Once the joints starts moving without the cartilages the bones starts brushing
against each other and this results in pain. In the former one that is rheumatoid
arthritis, cartilages weakens and bones start rubbing each other. Often joints are
having inflammation for which pain persists.
However we may try to do simple things which can reduce the pain and swelling .
Common vegetables
Some common sulphur containing vegetables like onion, garlic, aspharagus etc
helps in repair and regeneration of damaged issues in the joints.
Friendly vitamin c
Vitamin c which acts as on antioxidant helps in reducing the harmful effects of oxygen
molecule in the body. It strengthens the immune system which in turn reduces
inflammation in the joints. Lemon, oranges, broccoli, chilly etc are helpful in fighting
this disease. Sometimes vitamin c tablets can also be taken once recommended by
physician.

Some kinds of fatty acids which are present in oils,nuts and fishes cures arthritis.
Gamma, linolenic acid prevents swelling in joints and strengthens immune system.
These fatty acids are fond in sea fishes like tuna, sardines, mackerel etc.

Capsaicin, the chemical compound which is present in cayenne has an unique
property which can stop the pain signal from the joints to brain. Lot of cayenne
capsules are also available in health store.
Application of heat & ice
Hot water bags can be applied to the swelling joints as this helps in reducing pain &
the inflammation. Similarly application of ice bag also helps in reducing pain. Same
may be applied for 10-15 minutes several times daily.
Daily exercise
Walking, swimming, running & bi cycling are good for fighting are prevent arthritis.
Constant movement of joints increases lubrication & thus reduces the friction among
the bones. Exercise to be started slowly & after proper warm up. Since wear & tear of
cartilages might occur if exercises are done without stretching the muscles.
Shed the excess weight
Excess weight put extra pressure in all the joints particularly
in legs which put the cartilages muscles under stress.
Constant stress eventually leads to injuries to this cartilages.
We should try shed off the excessive weight by doing regular
exercises & avoiding fat rich diets.
Minimize bending joints
Once any one is suffering from arthritis he/ she should avoid
doing the routine jobs which needs bending of joints, like
picking up of bucket, opening a door which has rotating knob,
making chapattis etc. Alternative arrangements can be made
in which bending of the painful joints can be avoided.
